Ah, the simple pleasures of the weekend brunch: Mimosas and Bloody Marys, omelettes on the menu after two o’clock, and a chunk of true leisure time with friends or family.

But my favorite part about going out to brunch? Getting dressed for it, naturally. The snob’s recipe for the perfect off-day afternoon ensemble consists of equal parts casual and decked out. She sheds the confining threads of the week and opts for items more understated. But don’t mistake nonchalant for apathetic. Weekends are the time to embrace some flair – just a little bit. Then you can save the real sizzle for the nighttime.

A cropped military jacket with an asymmetric twist puts a forward spin on the casual cotton-twill jacket – and makes it exciting enough to save for playtime. Just the thing for a spring-initiating brunch. Antonio Berardi Asymmetric Cotton-Twill Jacket. On Net-a-Porter for $1,615.

Choose a shoe that’s the best of both worlds by dressing your feet to the nines with a decadent flat, complete with grosgrain ribbon, antiqued metal chains, and prong-set crystals. This must be the highest low-maintenance shoe around.Lanvin Draped-Chain Thong Sandal. At Bergdorf Goodman for $1,990.

No weekend outing is complete without a classic white cotton T-shirt. Why not go for one that has a little something extra, like tonal silk chiffon trim? Dosa Chiffon Back Tee. At Barneys New York for $215.

For pants, think sleek, simple, and on the side of comfort. It’s only brunch, after all. J Brand‘s jeans look more like pants than leggings; the smart cropped cut gives a nod to spring and shows off your sandals. J Brand “Pitch” Legging. At Barneys New York for $138.

Just in case you were a dirty stay-out the night before (you know who you are!), you’ll want a pair of shades in tow. Ombré-effect vintage frames are more special than your typical “it” sunnies. Retrosun Vintage Christian Dior Sunglasses. On Net-a-Porter for $300.

The bag brings it all together. Take advantage of the fact that you can pack minimally, and sling on a no-fuss shoulder bag – ram-shaped hardware makes Derek Lam’s just capricious enough. Derek Lam “Ume” Saddle Bag. At Barneys New York for $590.
